The meats available in non-Muslim countries are of different types:
— Fish is halaal in all circumstances, because its being halaal does not depend on how it is slaughtered or whether the name of Allaah is mentioned over it.
— With regard to other kinds of meat, if those who slaughter it – companies or individuals – are from the People of the Book,, Jews or Christians, and it is known that they do not kill the animals by means of electric shocks, strangulation or blows to the head, as is known in the West, then the meat is permissible.
Recently it has been heard that fruit and vegetables are being injected with male and female hormones. If this is haram please could you let me know and explain fully.
If it is proven that these hormones are harmful, then it is not permissible to eat these foods. But it has to be proven that they are harmful, and this should not be the matter of mere doubt, because the basic principle is that they are permissible.
SLAUGHTER BY KAFIRS
It is not permissible to eat meat slaughtered by kaafirs, apart from the People of the Book, i.e., Jews and Christians, whether the kaafirs in question are Magians, idolaters, communists or any other kind of kaafirs. It is also not permissible to eat anything that has been mixed with their meat, such as soups, sauces, etc. Allaah has not permitted us to eat the food of the kuffaar apart from the food of the People of the Book, as He says (interpretation of the meaning):
“Made lawful to you this day are At‑Tayyibaat
[al-Maa’idah 5:5]
“Their food” means the meat that they slaughter, as mentioned by Ibn ‘Abbaas and others.
With regard to vessels, the Muslims should have vessels separate from those of the kuffaar which the latter use for their food, wine, etc. If none are available then the Muslim cooks should wash the vessels that the kuffaar use and then put the Muslims’ food in them, because of the report narrated in al-Saheehayn from Abu Tha’labah al-Khushani (may Allaah be pleased with him), that he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) about eating from the vessels of the mushrikeen;; the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to him, “Do not eat from them unless you cannot find anything else, in which case wash them and eat from them.”
Eating meat from restaurants if it is not known whether the name of God has been pronounced at the time of slaughtering of the animal.
If these restaurants are in a country where the slaughter of meat is taken care of by Muslims or People of the Book (i.e., Jews and Christians), or the restaurant owners take care of the slaughter themselves and they are Muslims or people of the Book, then it is permissible to eat there, even if we do not know whether they mentioned the name of Allaah over the slaughter or not, because the basic principle is that their meat is allowed. Al-Bukhaari (2057) narrated from ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) that some people said, “O Messenger of Allaah, some people bring meat to us and we do not know whether they mentioned the name of Allaah over it or not.” The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Say the name of Allaah over it and eat itt.”
But if the slaughter of meat is taken care of by people other than Muslims or people of the Book, such as atheists and Hindus, then it is not permissible to eat it.
It should be noted that meat slaughtered by a Muslim or a Jew or Christian is permissible if it was slaughtered in the manner prescribed in sharee’ah or if we do not know how it was slaughtered. But if we know that it was slaughtered in a way other than that prescribed in sharee’ah, such as by strangling, electric shock, etc, then it is maytah or dead meat and it is haraam to eat it regardless of whether the one who killed it was a Muslim or a kaafir, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
One of the following three scenarios must apply to this meat:
1 – We know that it has been slaughtered in the proper manner. This meat is halaal.
2 – We know that it has not been slaughtered in the proper manner. This meat is haraam.
3 – We are not sure; we do not know whether it has been slaughtered in the proper manner or not. The ruling in this case is that the meat is halaal, and we do not have to ask about how it was killed, or whether the name of Allaah was mentioned over it or not. Rather it seems from the Sunnah that it is better not to ask or try to find out. If a person wants to be cautious and forego eating this meat, there is nothing wrong with that, but there is also nothing wrong with eating it.
If somebody collected Wealth from both halaal and haraam sources, by sell are alcohol and pork. Is it permissible for us Muslims to mix with them and eat their food if they invite us? Is it permissible for us to accept their donations from this wealth for the mosque?.
You have to advise them and warn them of the evil consequences of dealing in haraam things and earning money from haraam sources.
If they refuse to heed the advice and reminders, and they persist in their haraam actions, then you have to forsake them for the sake of Allaah, and not accept their invitations or accept their donations, as a rebuke to them, and in the hope that they will give up their evil ways.
Eating these animals permissible according to sharee’ah: crows , foxes , eagles and gazelles ?
With regard to crows, it is not permissible to eat them, because they are vermin which may be killed whether one is in ihraam or not. They eat carrion and filthy things.
As for foxes, they have fangs and hunt other animals, and they eat impure things, so they are haraam.
As for eagles, they have talons, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade every bird that has talons. This includees birds that eat what they can carry in their talons, or they use them for hunting, like eagles, sparrow hawks, falcons, hawks, etc. And because they also eat carrion and feed on filth, they are all haraam.
With regard to gazelles, they are halaal according to scholarly consensus, because they are game that avoid contact with humans. The Sahaabah said that a fidyah (ransom) is to be paid by those who kill them in the Haram or when in ihraam, which indicates that they are permissible. And Allaah knows best.
Is it permissible to eat at restaurants where alcohol is served?.
If it is possible to eat elsewhere then it is not permissible to eat at these places, because that involves cooperating with them in sin and transgression, which Allaah has forbidden. If it is not possible to eat elsewhere then it is permissible to eat there in cases of necessity, But he should not eat or drink anything except that which Allaah has pe
rmitted.
What is the ruling on eating the flesh of animals that are slaughtered in a Muslim country by means of electric shocks, knowing that the animal is stunned with the electric shock until it falls to the ground, then the butcher slaughters it as soon as it has fallen to the ground.
If the matter is as described, that the butcher slaughters the an’aam animal (camel, cow, sheep or goat) as soon as it falls to the ground after receiving an electric shock, if that is done when it is still alive, then it is permissible to eat it. But if he slaughters it after it has died then it is not permissible to eat it. This comes under the ruling on animals killed by a violent blow, which Allaah has forbidden unless they are properly slaughtered before they die.
Is it permissible to eat peacock meat if slaughtered in the halaal method?.
It is permissible to eat peacock meat because the basic principle is that it is halaal.
What is the ruling on dishes containing frogs’ legs?
Frogs are haraam and so are the parts of their bodies, because they are regarded as revolting and unclean. And Allaah knows best.
