Seeking aid from the living or the dead in that in which they have no power or capability is a clear instance of shirk (polytheism, assocation of partners with Allaah in worship), the greatest of all sins. The books of the Shia are full of this and it resembles the way of the extreme Sufis. The Shia and Sufis have a historical connection with each other and grave worship entered the Sufis through the Shia.

This book is Mustadrak al-Wasaa’il of al-Tabarsee (Beirut, 2nd edition, 1408H), and there occurs therein (p. 310), “Then you place your right cheek on the earth and you say a hundred times in prostration, “O Muhammad, O Alee, O Alee, O Muhammad, suffice me (in my needs) for you are both sufficers, and aid me for you are both my helpers.” And you place your left cheek on the earth and you say a hundred times, “Reach me (to deliver me)” and you repeat it many times, and you say, “(I seek) rescue, rescue, rescue” until the soul is disconnected, then you raise your head and through His generosity, Allaah will fulfil your needs, if He wills.

The Shia have the same argument as their brethren in Shirk, the extreme Sufis, who say that one may supplicate to anyone for anything (even things they do not have power and control over) as long as one does not ascribe rububiyyah (qualities of lordship) to them and this - as any intelligent person can see - is an utter lie, because if a person truly and genuinely believed that only Allaah is the creator, provider, owner, deliverer, helper and so on, they would have supplicated to Him alone, and the only reason they are seeking aid, rescue and deliverance from others is because they believe they have a share in these matters alongside Allaah.
