Shaykh Al Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah said, “…and most of the sermons which the author of the book Nahjatul Baalighah quotes in it are lies upon Alee (radiyallahu ‘anhu) …”, and, “But as for the author of Nahjatul Baalighah and his like, they take many sayings of people, and make them into the sayings of Alee (radiyallahu ‘anhu) .” [Minhaaj as-Sunnah]

About Al-Murtadhee, Abu Taalib Alee Ibn Husayn Ibn Moosaa Al Muwsawee, then Adh-Dhahabee said about him, “He is the compiler of the book Nahjatul Baalighah, whose statements are attributed to Imaam Alee (radiyallahu ‘anhu) , there being no chain of narrators for them, some of them are in fact, Baatil (Falsehood/Wrong), and in some there is some truth, but it also contains fabrications…” And he said, ” In his writings, the Companions of Allaah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم are abused. We seek refuge in Allaah from knowledge that brings no benefit” [From Siyaar A’laamun Nubalaa]
