Why Is Jesus God in Christianity but Not in Islam?

Why is Jesus considered God in Christianity but not in Islam, where even Muhammad is not divine?

Answer

As per Islam Christianity exaggerated the role of Isa alaihessalam (Jesus) and the Christians made him into God but in reality he was just a prophet & messenger of god almighty; (just like other prophets) :

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “Say (O Muhammad): I am only a man like you. It has been revealed to me that your Ilaah (God) is One Ilaah (God i.e. Allaah)” [al-Kahf 18:110] The state of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) in his humanity is the same as that of all the Prophets and Messengers. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “And We did not create them (the Messengers, with) bodies that ate not food, nor were they immortals” [al-Anbiya’ 21:8] “And they say: Why does this Messenger (Muhammad) eat food, and walk about in the markets (as we)…?” [al-Furqaan 25:8] “Their Messengers said to them: We are no more than human beings like you” [Ibraaheem 14:11] “Do not exaggerate about me as was exaggerated about ‘Eesa (Jesus) ibn Maryam. Say: the slave of Allaah and His Messenger.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 6830. And (remember) when Allâh will say (on the Day of Resurrection): “O ‘Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)! Did you say unto men: ‘Worship me and my mother as two gods besides Allâh?’ ” He will say: “Glory be to You! It was not for me to say what I had no right (to say). Had I said such a thing, You would surely have known it. You know what is in my inner­self though I do not know what is in Yours, truly, You, only You, are the All­Knower of all that is hidden and unseen. (Al-Ma’idah 5:116)
