The majority of classical scholars prohibited musical instruments, citing the hadith in al-Bukhari on those who consider them lawful. A minority permitted them subject to conditions. The subject is genuinely disputed and should be discussed as such.
A long-standing disagreement. Those opposing it hold it to be an innovation with no basis in the first three generations; those permitting it treat it as a permissible occasion for praise and remembrance provided it is free of prohibited elements.
The majority of contemporary scholars permit it, holding that the general permission to visit graves for the sake of remembering death applies to men and women, provided the visit is free of wailing and other prohibited conduct.
Genuinely disputed. Some scholars prohibit it as endorsing religious content; others, including many contemporary jurists, permit general courtesies to neighbours, colleagues and relatives as part of good treatment.
Classical prohibitions concerned three-dimensional images and depictions made to be venerated. Most contemporary scholars permit photography for legitimate purposes, while a minority extend the classical prohibition to it.
